Marcel's Pop.

This is Marcels's Pop.

It is a 1957 ford pop & will be built to "Pro Street" style.

Looking to import a 350 SBC (if funds, read missus, allow I will go for a 383) The target is 400 hp and it will have a steel bottom end and forged pistons and worked heads. A 150 hp N0s system will be fitted also.
Trans will be a 350 but not sure of what spec as yet but will be speaking to Andy Frost in the future.

Color to be possibly Cactus green metallic or Ford forest green metallic
The date of completion.......God only knows!

Self built chassis using the original rails as outriggers. The chassis is made from 80mm x 40mm thick wall box and has been Z'd 3" at the front to incorporate a front crossmember to site the front suspension /
steering.
A full CDS 2 roll cage / suspension mounts will be fitted, again self built
Front suspension is shortened Mac struts and fabricated A arms / roll bar.
Rear suspension not yet decided
steering will be shortened Escort or Fiesta.
The body will be standard as opposed to being chopped as I like the cartoon look of the car. At present all steel (because it was there).
Roof panel to be fitted and bulkhead to be made.
Interior will be in keeping with the "Pro Street style" but will be made to be fairly comfortable,ie, heater, stereo and maybe electric windows / doors. Instead of Ali paneling will be looking at carbon fibre panels, if I can get them made at a reasonable price.
A posts and rear valance renewed, sills repaired as were not to bad.
 Old rear valence removed.
The passenger door
has been widened by 10mm to fit !!
Filler hole welded up.
Rear axle will be shortened 9" with locker and resplined shafts, five linked and converted to honda discs and cossy calipers.
Wheels will be centreline Convo Pros 12 x 15 & 4x15.

The roof panel was taken from an Astra and welded in.
The new roof with the welds ground back, filled and smoothed off ready for some primer.

The inner wings were to far gone to repair so they have been trimmed back and reinforced. I may leave them open like this or fit alloy panels in at a later date.
Front end after a few repairs were carried out and the bumper iron holes were welded up, all filled and primered.
The boot lid has had the bottom 3" replaced and all the holes filled to keep things looking smooth. I now have to work out how to fabricate / fit the hinges.
A blatant copy of Mark's hinges I know, but it does look good?
Upper hinge here,
And lower hinge here.
The top inner edge of the rear wheel arches have been trimmed back to
give that extra 1" of wheel travel.
I will weld a strip in on both, which will then give me a better surface
to fit the wheel tubs.
The slots for the semaphores have been welded up, filled and primered ready for finishing.

Chassis main frame tig welded.

Body on chassis. Fits ok too!
now I can measure up the brackets for the front end and to make up and install the boot lid hinges.

Now I need some wheels and tyres!

I finished off the roof ,then took a deep breath and took out the bulkhead, it's just a matter of filling it in now. I also decided to tidy up the lower front arch area but not to sure what to do with it yet though.
Time to fit some bearclaw catches to the doors. I've used the large catches but only because they were a bargain on E Bay.
I made up the plates to hold the catches and modified the old lock mechanism.

After much head scratching I welded the tang onto the old mechanism and tacked an Allen head bolt to the pivot point hole on the lever mechaism of the bearclaw. This will draw the lever down and unlatch the lock when the handle is turned.

Fully welded in, ground back and primered for now. Most of all working perfectly.

Prior to starting I did brace the doors before cutting so hopefully they will fit back on the car as before.

I have started to panel in the bulkhead.

Bending the sheet in the garage has been dificult but I'm pleased with the results so far.
The inner A post panels have been fitted and tacked in place ready for the final finishing The passenger side is shown here.

Front end all fabricated, filled and primered ready for final finishing now.

Because the front end is not how I had originaly intended to build it I'll have alter the side rails as they now potrude past the firewall. It's nothing major but it don't look right.

I decided to make the rear tubs round as apposed to following the originall shape of the rear arches. This will be an easier shape to roll and also give a bit more space in the boot. The sheet was shaped so that it followed on from the original which will give a good surface to weld when fitting in the tubs.

A slight change of plans in the engine depatment!
I'n now installing a 354 Hemi which I had imported from the states by
Kerry Tate (Originals) The plan is a complete refurb, full balance, fast
cam, High comp pistons and a high rise with 2 x 500 cfms . In the Pics
I'm just lining it up for some engine mounts that I'm making. Just fits too!

The chassis mounts have been fabricated and all is tacked in place.
Fitted the body work. It's tight in there!
I have started on the roll cage now, as you can see the engine will have
to go / out minus the heads as there's no room otherwis
